I gave my 7 yr. old a spelling quiz today.
One of her words was ‘ahead’.
I said, “Ahead…..’The girl ran ahead of her mom at the park,’… ahead,”
as always, saying the word, using it in a sentence, then saying it again.
She looked at me, and said. “That’s not a good one.”
I said, “Oh c’mon…that’s not such a hard word! You can spell that one! Just try.”
“No,” she said, “I mean she shouldn’t run ahead of her mom when they’re out at the park! That’s not good!”
Gotta love a kid with a conscience… and, gotta love home-schooling!
This all occurred on the couch, cuddled up in our favorite blankies!
Ok… as great as that sounds?

This ‘giggle’ comes from an amazing friend I have known over 30 years. So glad to now be ‘giggling’ about her kids! Thanks, Bets! I love you!
Tyler and I were thinking of a fun, rainy day activitiy to do.
He asked me if we could make Rice Krispie Treats.
I said, “Sure I just have to measure the ingredients to make sure we have enough.”
Just 30 seconds later he comes up to me, hands me a RULER and says,”Here mom, now you can measure to see if we have enough!“
So cute! I love these times as a mom that make every frustrating moment melt away!

While away on our last vacation, my oldest daughter’s beloved turtle passed…very sad, yes.
The other day, my daughter got this card in the mail from our dear friends in North Carolina.
It’s certainly not funny that the turtle died, but this card was HYSTERICAL! I didn’t even imagine they even had a card like this!
The inside said…”Or he could just be asleep…with turtles you can never tell!”
The next time you don’t think they have a card for your occasion…think again!

Home Alone March 19, 2010
Well, I actually had a full 24 hours by myself yesterday without my kids. *Ahem* …let me try that again.
I ACTUALLY HAD A FULL 24 HOURS BY MYSELF YESTERDAY WITHOUT MY KIDS!!!!!
There…that’s better. What did it take to get 24 to myself?
It took my yearly (even though I haven’t been in 7 years) women’s doctor appointment.
Yippy Skippy.
Yup, I had to do it. It was just time. Way overdue, but now it’s over. Yay me. So, because my doctor is an hour and a half away from my house and my hubby’s fam lives in the same town, I had dinner with an amazing friend, went to church with her and spent the night at a friend-of-the-family’s vacation home…all by myself. Very strange. Very quiet.
I enjoyed the evening I had all to myself, besides texting my 12-yr.-old and keeping up with what was going on at home through her. (We weren’t going to get her a phone until she was 13, but I got tired of relying on everyone else’s cell phone every time I wanted to get up with her when she wasn’t with me… getting her the phone was really a gift for me! = ) Sneaky Mommy!)
I got up this morning, in my silent surroundings, went to breakfast with my sis-in-law, did a little grocery shopping and drove home. I came home to a quiet, empty house, which was good because it allowed me to put all of my groceries away and clean out the fridge, pantry, etc…you know the routine.
Within a moment, my day went from ridiculously quiet and calm, to feeling like I had just walked into the best party in town. They crashed through the front door laughing and playing around so hard that they immediately started sprinting for the bathrooms. It was then that I remembered what they had been doing with Dad all day…painting the new shed behind the church. (It makes me laugh now thinking about it because he literally dropped the girls off at home, and took off again like a shot to go finish some work without saying a word…I guess he was ready for his quiet time! Hee hee!)

They were covered! This picture doesn’t do it justice, but it gives you an idea. They had so much white paint in their hair it looked like they were ready for a hamburger and a cup of coffee at McDonalds…if you catch my drift!
They had a blast painting with their Dad, and they missed me, which they don’t often get the opportunity to do, so all-around, it was a good day.
And now my home was immediately filled with all of the wonderfully familiar sounds of chaotic motherhood. Quiet is good …but only for a little while.
One Good Reason… March 18, 2010
Ah yes, the endless days of sitting on the bathroom floor watching as your toddler’s legs practically go numb from sitting…waiting. Reading that Dr. Seuss book one more time, while you are thinking of all of the things piling up outside that bathroom door. Bills that need to be paid, laundry that needs to be washed, phone calls that need to be made…ugh. And you are in here…waiting.
That was child #1. You could’ve left it at that…then you had one more…
Child #2. You sit for a little while, then send in child #1 to read them a story, the ultimate in multi-tasking. Giving Child#1 the opportunity to practice their reading while entertaining Child #2. At the same time, you are allowing Child #1 and Child #2 to bond. Yes, while going potty. Strange hearing myself say it now, but totally rational at the time. While all of this is going on, you are picking up toys, folding laundry, and paying bills while putting your Mommy Management skills to use by passing by every few minutes to get a potty update, and inform Child #1 that she needs to call me when it’s ‘wrap up’ time…A.K.A.~Wipeage.
You could’ve even left it there…but…(no pun intended)
Child #3. You send them in by themselves to get on the potty, and call for Child #1 and Child #2 to take turns watching/entertaining Child #3. After about 5 minutes, both Child #1 and Child #2 have found much enjoyment in making Child #3 laugh, so they decide to stay in the bathroom and put on a show. Child #3 is laughing so hard by now that she experiences immediate success! But, that is no longer important, so she still stays on the potty, legs going numb, for fear of missing out on the finale. After 20 minutes, (now that I have completed my phone calls, mopped the kitchen floor, marinated the chicken for dinner, and vacuumed all of the Cheerios out of the high chair) I go in for the ‘wrap up’, only to find the bathroom vacated by all, which can mean one of three things. Child #1 endured the task of wipeage, Child #3 is running around naked, or it was long enough for ‘drip dry’ to occur and she pulled her pants up and went along her merry way.
This post may have more information than you cared for today, but the hard facts are difficult to mask. Life is definitely more exciting with three kids. This is just one good reason to have more than one…Enjoy yours!
Giggle of the Day! Literally… March 17, 2010
When my daughter Kaitlyn was 2, (she’s now 12) she had just finished a very messy peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. We were going out that evening, so I told her to get down from the table, and head straight into the tub, which I had started running the water a few minutes earlier.
I was about 5 steps behind her, dropped the washcloth, picked it up with her 3 month old sister on my hip, and proceeded down the hall to get her in the tub. By the time I got there (5 steps behind) she had gotten in all by herself. SHOES AND ALL. When she saw the surprised look on my face, she smiled and said, “You told me to get straight in the tub, Mommy!” “Yes, Kaitlyn, I did.”
