“Rainy days and Mondays always get me down…” I don’t know the kind of lifestyle Carol King had, or why God taking a shower on a Monday bothered her so much, but I refuse to allow myself to wake up to rain the first day of the week and be depressed. Why would anyone want to do that?
Oh! I know! It’s that stinkin’ thinkin’! If this phrase is new to you, let me explain. Stinkin’ thinkin is always having your glass half-empty, always thinking the worst…get it? I can promise you one thing…if we walk around with this mind-set, our kids will definitely follow suit. When your little girl puts your high heels on and walks around the house, she pictures herself looking just like you. It’s no different with our faces, or our attitudes, or what comes out of our mouths. Our faces will always reflect our thoughts with our kids…we don’t fake it well when it comes to them, now do we?
If you live your life with your glass half-empty, let me encourage you in two ways: First of all, God’s word says,” Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9 Wow! That rocks.
Second, it’s not hard to change your thought pattern…make today the first day of the rest of your positive thinking lives. If you’re attitude stinks and you actually like being miserable, picture your son or daughter being just that miserable….did that change your mind? Good.
So, ladies, put on your positive thinking caps, enjoy your coffee with the sound of rain in the background, (if it’s raining where you are!) and get ready for an awesome day. Make a fort with your kids, cuddle on the couch and watch Dora with your toddler, plan a game night with your teenager…replace those yucky thoughts with something that is going to shape the minds and hearts of your kids in an affirmative way.
If you think your kids’ smiles are the best sight in the world, don’t you think they feel the same about yours?
